Each child will be Star of the Week, so the students can get to know him/her better. This is a fun home project. You can take as much time as you need to complete the poster and gather the material. Click here for our Star of the Week schedule:
As “Star of the Week”, your child will have special responsibilities. Please return the completed poster, favorite book, share sack, and items for the “What’s my number” jar on the preselected date-see back for the schedule.
1. Poster: color, paint, and/or decorate the poster the way you would like. You can use real photos if you choose (the poster will be returned at the end of the year).
2. Book: Your child should bring one of his/her favorite books. Please prepare your child to ask the students questions about the title of the book, the characters, the setting, and the beginning, middle, and end of the story. Your child should come prepared to tell why this book was selected. We also invite a parent to read the story to the class, if they are available.
3. Share sack: put an object in the attached paper sack , something that is meaningful to your child. On the sack write down three clues about the object that your child can give to the class. Start with a very general clue and move to more specific clues like: it is a stuffed animal, it quacks. The other children will try to guess what is in the bag after each clue.
4. What’s my number: Please have your child collect and bring in a set number of items in a ziplock bag. The students will guess the number, based on clues provided by your child. Here’s a guideline for the chosen number:
Before Nov. 30 use 1 – 40
Before Feb. 10 use 41-80
Before may 5 use 81-120
5. Parent letter (optional): You are invited to write a letter to your child, which will be read by me to the class. It could be a nice keepsake from first grade, as all items will come home.
*Although we will take good care of items you send in, please do not send items which have monetary or sentimental value, just in case. Enjoy your week to shine!
