Weekly Homework
We will not start our weekly homework the first few weeks of school, so please take this time to get back to reading every night! As mentioned in my announcement page, this is also a GREAT time to have your child practice telling stories about what he/she did over the summer. We start with narrative writing, so students will write about activities and places they go. Verbally telling the story is a great way to get your child ready for writing, which will take place daily:)
All first graders complete the same weekly homework assignment. This assignment will provide practice on phonics, reading, writing, and math skills taught in the classroom. We will post the assignment each Friday, due the following Friday. Home login information for your child for Raz-Kids and IXL math, will come home as soon as that is available. Please keep this login information in a safe place, so your child can practice reading and math skills on the computer. We will practice logging in/out on Chrome books in the classroom.
We are providing parent resources with our homework. Once we are past the phonics review, there are parent resources for phonics as well, which are very helpful. These will be emailed in our weekly emails.
First grade made a switch to on-line homework. We found SeeSaw to be absolutely WONDERFUL! Students should turn his/her homework on SeeSaw every Friday.
Please note that I will provide a couple homework helpers: chart to 120 and the alphabet, which provides the sounds and a picture for each letter.
Homework will be emailed every Friday afternoon and will be completed and turned in on SeeSaw.
The students will have all week to complete the homework. It is very important that students adopt the habit of doing homework each day in order to develop study habits that will support them in future years. Please work with your child to choose a specific time and place that you will dedicate for nightly homework. Consistent routines provide structure and support students' need to be successful with homework.
I am including a list of the Kindergarten sight words:

Please keep in mind that your child's daily homework should not exceed 30 minutes a night, which includes 15 minutes of reading:) Have fun working with your child on his/her homework. Please let me know if you have any questions.
